Inner Mongolia Jan-Aug coal output down 6.6pct on yr

Inner Mongolia autonomous region, China’s leading coal production base, produced 615.45 million tonnes of coal over January-August this year, down 6.6% from the year before, showed data recently released by the Inner Mongolia Administration of coall mines Safety.

Key state-owned mines -- owned by the central and provincial governments -- produced 568.55 million tonnes of coal in the first eight months, climbing 21.0% year on year.

Local state-owned mines – owned by governments at the prefecture and county levels -- produced 14.25 million tonnes of coal during the same period, plunging 72.1% year on year.

Township mines -- owned by below-county level governments and private operators – produced 32.65 million tonnes of coal, plummeting 76.3% year on year.

The administration didn’t give the output figures for August.

Calculations showed the autonomous region produced 79.88 million tonnes of coal in August, falling 12.74% year on year and down 5.03% from the month-ago level, representing the first drop after rising for three consecutive months on a year-on-year basis.

Output of key state-owned mines was calculated to be 69.14 million tonnes or 86.6% of the total, edging up 0.51% year on year but down 6.91% month on month.

Calculations also showed that local state-owned mines produced 3.18 million tonnes of coal in August, plunging 49.20% year on year but up 3.92% month on month; while output of township mines fell 54.15% from the year before but increased 11.5% from July to 7.56 million tonnes
